Minecraft villagers guide: types, trades and professions

Minecraft villagers

Minecraft is one of the most popular games around the world, despite the fact that years have passed since its official launch. This game introduces new elements with some frequency and has a world of the most extensive, so there is always something to learn about. This is the case with the villagers in the game, something familiar to many of you.

Then we leave you with a guide on villagers in Minecraft. We tell you more about them, the different types that exist, the professions they have or the exchanges that we can make with them (trade). So you will know the possibilities that these villagers offer us when we are playing the popular title on our account.

What are villagers in Minecraft

Minecraft Villager

The first question for many of the users is to know what these villagers are in the game. Villagers in Minecraft are peaceful creatures living in villages scattered throughout the game world. Each of the villagers in said village has a profession in which they work. In addition, they reproduce (they are going to have children) and also interact with other characters that we meet in the game, including ourselves.

Depending on the profession that each villager has, their clothing will be different, this is something that you will notice as you come across more villagers in the game. It also depends on the biome you are in, something that influences. One of the keys to keep in mind is that it is possible to trade with the villagers. This is done by using emeralds as a bargaining chip for such transactions.

When they appear, villagers explore the village they are in in Minecraft. They will make sounds, in addition to being able to open and close doors. They always stay in their village, which they will tour, but never leave. The villagers are related to each other and it is from these relationships that the so-called baby villagers come out, since they have the ability to reproduce.

Villager types and professions

Villagers in Minecraft

As we have mentioned, each villager in the game has a different profession, something that you can see on your clothing at all times. These villagers can also have specific jobs within their profession and can also change professions if they have no experience in the profession they are currently in.

Within each of these villagers professions in Minecraft we meet different levels, which are determined by your experience in the profession. That level is reflected in the badge they have, so it is enough to look at that badge to know the level of experience they have in their profession. The five levels that we find are the following:

  • Stone badge: The villager is a novice in his profession.
  • Iron insignia: You are an apprentice in your profession.
  • Gold badge: You have reached the level of qualified in your job.
  • Emerald Badge: He is an expert in his work.
  • Diamond badge: Is a master (highest level achieved in a profession in the game).

Minecraft Villagers

There are different types of villagers in Minecraft, determined by the profession they have in their villages. We meet them in all the biomes in the game, although their clothing will be different depending on the biome in which we are at that moment. This is something that you will notice as you move between them, but there are also guides indicating this. When we talk to a villager, the profession will always be displayed as a title at the top of the business interface. This is the list of professions that these villagers can have in the game:

  • Unemployed.
  • Simple / Nitwit.
  • Butcher.
  • Armor blacksmith.
  • Cartographer.
  • Priest / Cleric.
  • Goalkeeper.
  • Fisherman.
  • Farmer.
  • Furrier.
  • Librarian.
  • Builder.
  • Shepherd.
  • Blacksmith.
  • Gunsmith.
  • Stone carver (only in Java version).

Profession assignment

The professions that these villagers in Minecraft have are not random. For a villager to be able to claim a workstation must find a clear path to said block (there can be no obstacles in that way). If you try several times but are unsuccessful, you will get angry, but will then look for a different workstation and will then have a different profession than the one on the block to which you have not had access.

All villagers can be unemployed if they are at the beginner level in their profession and you cannot find a clear path to your assigned work station, if someone has placed some obstacle, for example. Also in the event that their work station is stolen or destroyed, they can remain unemployed (we will tell you more about this in the last section).

Every villager in Minecraft has a chance to become the owner of an unclaimed workstation. If there are several villagers who do not have work near a work station, it will be the villager who arrives first who can claim it as his own and will then obtain that profession. This forces others to keep looking for another unclaimed and freely accessible workstation in their village. This process is constantly repeated in the game.

Trade with villagers in Minecraft

Minecraft Villagers Exchanges Items

All players in Minecraft have the ability to trade with the villagers. This trade can use many types of objects, something that can vary between those players who use external programs to customize the exchanges. Emeralds are usually used as currency in these exchanges, so it is important to always have emeralds when trading with these villagers in the game.

The type of villager is something that is going to have influence on the type of exchange, although in part it will also depend on the random code of Minecraft. Trading with a villager also serves to classify him in this process. By doing this, you will unlock more of your items that we will be able to exchange then. Of course, it is important to know that emeralds will always be part of the business process. If a villager offers a series of items, we will need emeralds to be able to exchange them. If they have emeralds, they will exchange them for the items listed in the 'exchange' option for that particular villager.

If there are villagers in Minecraft who trade emeralds for items or items for, then the emeralds are random and vary. Depending on the profession that each of those villagers has, the products you are going to offer and with which you are going to trade will be different. Villagers in the game who have no profession (unemployed and nitwit) have nothing to trade, so it is important to keep this in mind at all times. Unemployed villagers can be exchanged by placing one of the previous work blocks nearby and in this way going to move to that profession. This is something that we explain in the next section.

Change the professions of villagers

Minecraft villagers professions

When we play Minecraft we have the possibility to change the professions of the villagers. It is not something that many know initially, but it is an existing option in the game, which is also quite easy to use. To change the profession of any of the villagers in the game, we will simply have to destroy the building block said villager is using at that time as his profession. This will force the villager to change profession.

If we do this, there is a clear consequence and that is said villager is going to be very angry with us for having destroyed said workstation in which it was. Also, this is something that we will not be able to do with everyone, because the unemployed or the so-called nitwit do not have a work station, so we do not even have to bother trying to do something against them.

When that villager's block or workstation is destroyed in Minecraft, the villager goes to find a new block to work on. This is something that they will do alone, looking for an unclaimed workstation, as we have told you before. Although we can also help, because if we make sure that there is another vacant job block and they are placed 48 blocks away from said villager, they will then look for a new job, they will find that block and they will move on to another profession in it. So we will have to make sure of it.

This is an option to which recur at certain times in Minecraft. For example, if we want to turn a farmer into a blacksmith, because it is something that interests us or suits us in our case, then we can help them, placing the work station in question nearby and simply waiting, because that villager will become one without we have to do nothing for it. Any user in the game will have the ability to do this.
