All Resident Evil movies | short descriptions

Resident Evil 2 Remake

Resident Evil is a horror video game series that was first released in 1996, with the first video game. In Japan (its country of origin) it is known by the name of “Biohazard”. Since the series, several movies and a series have come out. Today we are going to give you a small description of all the Resident Evil movies.

This is one of the most successful video game series in history. A true classic of any console thanks to the number of video games they have released. Was created by Shinji Mikami and developed by Capcom.

Animation movies

Animated movies are considered canon., which means that they take place within the universe of video games. I will mention them below.

Resident Evil: Degeneration – Degeneration (2008)

resident evil degeneration

The first Resident Evil animated film made by Capcom. Starring Leon And Claire, tells us the story of how a new virus begins to spread. All this, under the shadow of the Umbrella corporation. Soon the situation will become complicated with the appearance of Nemesis.

Resident Evil: Damnation – Hell (2012)

In the second installment by Capcom, we will see Leon S. Kennedy and Ada Wong in a fictional country called Eastern Slavia. Mission? Investigate rumors about alleged biological weapons being used for war purposes.

War conflicts, investigations and Leon S. Kennedy facing the Soviets; if it sounds good, you'll like it.

Resident Evil Vendetta – Vengeance (2017)

If you saw the 2012 film, you should watch Vendetta as it is a sequel. Here, the usual protagonist: Leon S. Kennedy, will have to deal with his past when Glenn Arias pursues him to settle accounts for what happened in Eastern Slavia. As co-stars we will have Chris Redfield and Rebecca Chambers.

Glenn will show off his extensive biological arsenal, and will allow us to see some of his classic creatures: doberman, zombies and Tyrants.

Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness – Infinite Darkness (2021)

infinite darkness

this is actually a 4 episode miniseries, each chapter just under half an hour long. So in length it is similar to another movie. But that is one of many peculiarities, this miniseries was made by Netflix, and in the timeline, it takes place before the first movie (Degeneration – 2008).

So if you want to watch the feature film series in chronological order, this one should go at number 1.

Resident Evil: Death Island (Expected for July of this year)

Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves for the synopsis of this movie. So far everything seems to indicate that it will be starring Leon and Chris. The first will be rescuing Dr. Antonio Taylor of some kidnappers, while the second will investigate a zombie outbreak for unknown cause, the clues of the mystery will lead you to a bigger problem.

American adaptations, by Screen Gems

Before the first film by Capcom, 3 American films had already come out. They do not coincide with the time line of the games, that is, that have a separate timeline. However, yes they are related to the original plot and include several characters from it (Leon S. Kennedy, Albert Wesker, Ada Wong, Chris Redfield, Claire Redfield and Jill Valentine).

Here, we will have a protagonist who does not appear in the video games: Alice Abernathy. Alice is a spy and anti-Umbrella activist. weapons and self defense expert. During the movies, we will be able to see her interact with characters from the games.

The most impressive thing about this protagonist (and important for the movies) is that has a perfect assimilation of Virus T (the virus created by Umbrella). Thanks to this, Alice Abernathy has some superhuman abilities, such as strength, speed, reflexes, and healing, in addition to certain mental powers.

Alice is played by Milla Jovovich.

Resident Evil – The Cursed Guest (2002)

resident-evil-2002

It is not uncommon for the first installment to have the name of the saga, and it was so on this occasion. Here we can see how the virus is discovered, and despite efforts, it ends up spreading. Directed by Paul W. Anderson, this film was a massive success around the world, plus it had great reviews. It was an American, French, German and British co-production.

Resident Evil 2: Apocalypse (2004)

The second installment was directed by Alexander Witt. This time, Alice wakes up in a clandestine Umbrella laboratory. she will have to escape and join the rest of the survivors to face the zombies and the forces of Umbrella. All this, trying to flee from Racoon City since it will be destroyed by a missile.

Resident Evil: Extinction (2007)

Resident Evil: Extinction

The world has been totally destroyed, the survivors seek refuge, among them is Alice. He will meet a new group led by Claire Redfield, and they will have to face Dr. Isaacs. Finally, they manage to escape, but Umbrella will continue on their heels. Directed by Russell Mulcahy.

Resident Evil: After Life (2010)

Again directed by Paul W. Anderson. This time Alice will continue her search for survivors, this time meeting Claire and her brother Chris again. will unite and they will face off against Umbrella in a battle that will push them to the limit.

Resident Evil: Retribution (2012)

For the second time in the saga, the film opens with Alice waking up in an Umbrella laboratory, but this time in Russia. Without major setbacks, she will manage to escape, and this time will join a group of survivors in which is Leon S. Kennedy. But before long, you will notice that Nothing is what it seems, and that if they don't do something, Umbrella will rule the world, or what's left of it.

Directed once again by Paul W. Anderson.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (2017)

final chapter

Everything has gone to the bottom, only remains alice against everyone, and will have to face the Umbrella Corporation and Dr. Isaacs, plus some surprise enemies. It is the last one, and once again, it is directed by Paul W. Anderson.

This is as far as the first movies go, but more recently (in 2021) it was released Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. This would come to be the first installment of a reboot of the saga. It was well received and if you're not expecting to see a whole saga right now, you'll probably like it.

And that's all, I hope I've been helpful.
